The Tolaga Bay Wharf needs help - now!
Today the reinforced concrete piles, under decking and railings are
deteriorating badly.
The problem is that the aggregate used in construction consisted of beach gravel from Napier and local beach sand, the salts in the resulting concrete have attacked the reinforcing which has expanded and is spalling off the concrete - to use the non-technical
term "It's falling to bits".
We are not engineers but have done what the experts have not. We've looked at the wharf from the bottom up along it's full length and it's in far worse shape than the engineering report indicates and will therefore cost far more to repair.
So what do we need? Apart from the previously mentioned "CASH".
We need expert engineering knowledge and innovative solutions to put
the structure back in as good a condition as possible to last as
long as possible.
We need companies or individuals with products or procedures which can rehabilitate reinforced concrete.
We need someone who can see the potential of this beautiful spot and is willing to develop it to that potential as a tourist attraction.
We need your help!
